Dear Sandra,

It has been a while since we last spoke. I hope you are doing well. I'm writing to you because I need some advice and I wonder what your thoughts would be on the situation I am in right now, since I consider you very insightful and fair.
During these past few weeks all I have been doing is preparing for the exams I am having at the end of the semester. Even though they are still more than two weeks from now, I decided to start preparing for them as soon as possible, so I might get somewhat ahead of the study schedule I set up for myself and maybe take a couple of days off before the prep period is over.
Everything went according to plans and we almost booked a three-day trip with some of my friends, however, when I told my parents about my plans, I got a reply I was not expecting at all. They were absolutely disagreeing with my trip plans and they said that an excursion like the one I have in mind is certainly not for before exams, but only after. They also expressed that they are concerned I would lose the progress I have made so far, as these exams are "all about short-term memory". Even though it is my first semester at uni, I am quite shocked how little trust they have towards me with this, especially because I don't really think I gave them reason to think about it like this.
In spite of this, I still feel that taking a break would rather bring better exam results because I would be more calm.
What is your opinion about this? Shall I try to convince mom and dad in some other way, and if so, what could that be?
