Families were much different a couple years ago than they are now.
Back then, families were much bigger with a lot more children. There were also whole generations living together which meant that people had less privacy than today. Mostly, women had the job of keeping the household togehter, which means they did chores around the house and looked after the kids they had, while men worked and earned money for their families.

Nowadays, its much different. Families only have 2 kids on average. Generations most likely dont live with each other so there is a lot more privacy for each of the family members. Women also work in today's society, but they also do the chores and look after their kids, while men's role remains the same. Unfortunately, there has been an increasing amount of divorces in the past few years. Patchwork families and single-parent families are also common today.
